Our next storm system has started to impact the region. There is a small chance for a wintry mix and snow today, mainly to the north and west. Widespread travel troubles are not expected today.

Other impacts from this system will include more cloud cover and strong winds. Gusts could reach 45 mph which has prompted a Wind Advisory that will be in effect from 9am to 6pm.

Even though winds will be gusty, they will also be out of the south which will help give temperatures a nice boost. The cold this morning is not as bitter and afternoon highs will reach the 40s and 50s.

After a warmer afternoon we will slip back down to and below freezing through the night. As our next system slides through the area there will continue to be a slight chance for snow and rain.

By Saturday morning there will mainly be a chance for rain in South Central Kansas while the rest of the area experiences some wintry weather. Winds will still be gusty with mostly cloudy skies too.

Any rain will gradually switch to a mix and snow through the day as colder air moves in.

A few trailing snow showers will be possible through Saturday evening.

Accumulations will be light with the highest amounts only totaling half an inch to an inch.

There will be a more significant snowy system by next Tuesday. This will be a day to monitor closely so stay tuned for updates.

There will continue to be some ups and downs in our temperatures but we will stay below average for at least another week.
