Billy Richmond Jr., the owner of the well-known Memphis wing franchise The Wing Guru , has been indicted and arrested for theft and tax fraud.

According to court records, Richmond is charged with one count of theft of property over $250,000 and two counts of falsification of state revenue/tax. His bail was set at $50,000. The incidents are alleged to have taken place on, or since, Jan. 1, 2018.

According to the indictment, the theft and fraud charges took place between Jan. 1, 2018 and Jan. 1, 2022.

Records show a Shelby County grand jury indicted Richmond on March 6. He was booked at the Shelby County Jail March 31.

The indictment comes months after The Commercial Appeal first reported that Richmond owed Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant more than $365,000 after using Morant's likeness without paying him. Those damages, according to court records, have still gone unpaid.

Including the damages from the Morant case, Richmond owes at least $3.8 million from other legal disputes between Richmond and former franchisees, a property manager and a loan company. Court records show that those damages have not been paid.

It was unclear, based on the criminal charges, if Richmond's arrest was tied to those cases. Process servers and Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies had not previously been able to reach Richmond regarding the damages in the civil cases.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
