The Winter Park Express continues to expand its offerings.

The Winter Park ski train has always been pretty cool, but starting in January riders can add another day to their ski trip. The train will now offer Friday service, adding more access to its previous Saturday and Sunday schedule.

Sending its first trip up to the mountains on January 10, you can now catch the Union Station train at 7 a.m. Friday through Sunday, and avoid the irritating traffic of I-70, then catch the return train at 4:30 p.m. The train will run on this schedule through the end of March. One-way and round-trip tickets are available.

"Plan a ski day, weekend, or week and take the Amtrak Winter Park Express from Denver Union Station to the base of Winter Park Resort from January 10 - March 29, 2020. The Winter Park Express runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only," says Amtrak.

This expanded schedule is another smart service improvement that the Winter Park Express has added over the last couple of years. Last year, it debuted a lounge car complete with snacks, refreshments, and a selection of adult beverages, as well.

Whether you ride on Friday or over the weekend, as the train winds its way up to the mountains and under the Continental Divide, you can enjoy the scenery and sip Fat Tire Amber, Blue Moon, or Coors Light. Woodbridge Wine varieties will also be available. Soda, coffee, water, tea, and juice, as well as several snack options, are available for the non-imbibing crowd.

What's even more exciting for lucky riders is that the lounge car is one of Amtrak's two-level Superliner Sightseer cars. These special cars feature windows that start at the floor level and wrap into the ceiling of the railcar. This provides an unmatched view of Colorado's winter wonderland. So, you can relax after a day on the slopes, surrounded by beautiful scenery, and sip on a merlot, all while someone does the driving for you.

You can get your tickets for your big ski trip on the Amtrak site. You can also check out the menu of snacks and beverages available in the lounge car here.
