Felony embezzlement? You've got to be kidding!

That crime was what 52-year-old Caron McBride discovered she had committed when she tried to get her license changed.

A Texas resident, McBride had tried to get her name changed on her driver's license when she was told via email by the DMV that she had an "issue" in Oklahoma. They gave her a reference number to call ... which ended up being Oklahoma's Cleveland County District Attorney's Office. 

She was then informed that she was wanted for the embezzlement of rented property—a felony charge!

When McBride was told this, she said, "I thought I was gonna have a heart attack ... I had to make her repeat it because I thought, this is insane. This girl is kidding me, right? She wasn't kidding."

What was McBride's exact warrant for?

A videocassette rental of the 1996 made-for-TV movie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She had failed to return the copy to Movie Place, which locations ended up closing down in 2008 anyways. Apparently, the warrant had been issued in 2000, well over a year since she had allegedly rented the movie.

"Because when they ran my criminal background check, all they're seeing is those two words: felony embezzlement," McBride said, in regards to what the DMV had discovered.

Despite the popularity of the TV show the movie was based off, McBride said it wasn't something she had been into at the time.

"I have never watched that show in my entire life ... Just not my cup of tea," she said. 

McBride stated that she doesn't remember renting the movie at all, admitting her account could have been used by a former housemate or boyfriend. She now wonders if that's why different jobs she'd previously been employed at let her go.

Thankfully for McBride, the Cleveland County District Attorney's Office decided to dismiss her case.

This situation ended up being somewhat comical but will no doubt have people trying to remember if they returned their old VHS tapes!
