SEDALIA, Mo. (KCTV) - A woman convicted of homicide in Nebraska was found and arrested in Missouri after her immigration status was called into question by ICE. Pettis County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Tuesday, March 4, have revealed that Lorena Lara-Diaz, 40, of Marshall, has been arrested in connection to a homicide warrant from Nebraska. A probable cause statement filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated that around 11:40 a.m., Troopers accompanied the U.S. Marshal’s Service to Lara-Diaz’s place of employment in Sedalia. She was arrested on an active felony warrant for a probation violation on an original charge of homicide. The Douglas County, Nebraska, Sheriff’s Office said Lara-Diaz was convicted of motor vehicle homicide on March 23, 2023, in connection to the death of Gary Mangiameli. However, in October 2024, she was briefly detained by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement due to her lack of legal status. Since Lara-Diaz’s release, law enforcement officials said she cut contact with her probation officer and ran back to Missouri, which led to the arrest warrant. Court documents indicated that an extradition order was signed by a Pettis County judge on Wednesday. As of Thursday, she remains behind bars in Missouri. She also currently has an appeal with Immigrations and Customs regarding her legal status. No further information has been released.
