VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was arrested Friday in connection to the death of a five-month-old boy, Virginia Beach police said.

Brianna Candelaria, 21, has been charged with second degree felony murder and felony child neglect.

Her arrest stems from a death investigation on July 29, 2024, when Virginia Beach police responded to the 800 block of Crossing Court for a five-month-old boy with a medical emergency. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

The incident remains under investigation.

Candelaria was arraigned on Jan. 13 and appointed a public defender, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office confirmed. She remains in custody and is due back in court on Jan. 27.
