AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – An Arizona man was sentenced for sexually assaulting a woman after he copied her hotel room key in Auburn Hills. Joel Delavara, 36, of Yuma, Arizona, was staying at an Auburn Hills hotel on Aug. 14, 2024, when he had a copy made of a woman’s room key. It’s not clear exactly how that key was copied. Delavara went into the woman’s room and sexually assaulted her before flying back to Arizona. On March 14, 2025, Delavara was found guilty by a jury. He was sentenced on May 13, 2025, to 180 months to 40 years in prison. He is required to provide DNA testing, provide HIV test, comply with sex offender registration requirements and not contact the victim.
