South Baltimore’s Cherry Hill community.

Investigators say an argument between a man and a woman inside a home suddenly turned viciously violent.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, when the argument turned violent 39-year-old Oba Torbit threw a cabinet and a bar stool at the woman, kicked her, shoved his fist into her mouth so she couldn’t breathe, and then raped her using a broomstick.

But the attack did not end there. According to the U.S. Marshals Service, the woman was then forced into the car and at a nearby daycare saw an opportunity to escape.

The woman, investigators say, signaled for help to one of the employees but Torbit quickly caught on, and fled in the car.

“This is a violent attack. A woman beaten, choked and raped. We need to make sure he’s off the street and brought to justice so we can ensure this doesn’t happen to anybody else,” said Mat Silverman, Acting Marshal with the U.S. Marshals Service.

According to court records, Torbit’s arrest record dates back nearly 20 years with prior convictions for felony drug and gun possession-related charges.

Torbit has also been the subject of 10 domestic violence petitions. Many of them read that the petitioner failed to appear.

Anyone with information regarding Torbit’s whereabouts is asked to contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 202-819-5058.
