WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – As people around Maryland are gearing up to make the trek to the Eastern Shore’s beaches, Worcester County Sheriff, Matt Crisafulli wants everyone to arrive alive.

He said this is the time of year when droves of people head to his jurisdiction the enjoy Ocean City, but he stresses it’s important to put those devices down and drive the speed limit.

“We want people to be cognizant of their speed; speed is one of the number one factors in collisions, and obviously the faster a motor vehicle is going in a crash, the higher the propensity for a fatality,” said Sheriff Crisafulli.

Earlier this week, a Cumberland Maryland State Trooper was injured, after being struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop. Sheriff Crisafulli urges everyone to consider the move over law when driving.

“If you are driving, and on the shoulder of the road you see a motor vehicle with its flashers on, whether it’s a tow truck, whether it’s a private vehicle, or it’s one of our law enforcement officers, you need to be able to move over and slow down,” said Sheriff Crisafulli.

He added if there is not another lane for you to move over to, you should instead slow your vehicle while passing the cars on the shoulder.
