The City of Worcester will be opening up the old Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) building at 611 Main St. as a temporary winter shelter this year, according to a spokesman for City Manager Eric Batista.

The spokesman told MassLive the shelter will consist of 60 beds and will be managed by South Middlesex Opportunity Council — a non-profit organization from Framingham that focuses on improving the lives of individuals and families. Meals, showers and a security detail will also be provided.
