Summer is unofficially here which means there's plenty of activities going in the Springfield area. Whether you want to catch a ball game with a few brews or stop by some food trucks, there's plenty going for everyone. Here are five things to do this weekend.
Brews and Baseball
What: The Springfield Lucky Horseshoes are inviting guests to their fourth annual Brews and Baseball game at the Lucky Horseshoe Stadium. Grab a ticket, taste some craft beers from local brands and cap out the night with colorful fireworks post-game.
More: Tickets are $40 and include access to the beer tasting section of the stadium. Tickets can be purchased from the Lucky Horseshoes website.
Dr. Doolittle Day at the Henson Robinson Zoo
What: The Henson Robinson Zoo is hosting a day for the kids to talk to the animals, every animal and learn what they say – and where they come from experts in the field. There will also be a zoo-wide scavenger hunt, educational stations and family friendly games.

Me, Myself and Schy at the Railyard
What: The Railyard is open which means there are weekly summer bands. "Me, Myself and Schy" will be performing this week. Based out of Springfield, the band produces a variety of Americana rock and pop covers with mandolins, fiddles and pedal steel.

Hymnody Earth Concert
What: Composer and hammer dulcimer player Malcolm Dalglish is bringing his whimsy and his craft to Springfield for one weekend only, sharing his love for nature through music. Dalglish will join with the Springfield Choral Society in presenting "Hymnody of Earth," an inspiring journey through the natural world and humanity’s place in it. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Illinois Audobon Society and the Lincoln Memorial Gardens A follow-up free concert with nature activities and Daglish will be held at the Lincoln Memorial Garden on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Art in the park and food truck Friday
What: Enjoy free, live performances every Friday this summer. Catch music, dance, and poetry from talented local performers—and grab lunch from a rotating lineup of food trucks on site. This weekend, enjoy music from Kevin Aldrich, a father of seven, a teacher, novelist and songwriter in the Springfield area. This program is brought by the Springfield Area Arts Council, Downtown Springfield Inc., and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
