Open call for artists for CRUSH WALLS 2020, Denver's biggest street art festival.

Street art is thriving in Denver, and the city’s biggest street art festival is set to return for another year. And applications are now open for artists!

Set for September 14–29, the district will be transformed as new works of art spring up throughout the area in honor of the urban arts celebration, CRUSH WALLS.

Back for the 11th year, the CRUSH WALLS festival spotlights local, national, and international artists in the immersive arts festival that takes over the RiNo Arts District every fall. The week-long, artist-centered event celebrates street art in all its glory and has created tons of public street art in Denver over the last decade.

The CRUSH WALLS 2020 event will cover 30 blocks and feature the live painting events, as well as photography, film, projection mapping, sculpture, music, dance, art battles, and so much more.

As described on the event's website, the festival is all about bringing art to everyone:

"CRUSH raises awareness of the cultural significance and importance of art for all ages and all demographics that may not have the opportunity to experience it otherwise. CRUSH offers art inspiration through this urban craft. The organization serves as a forum for community engagement and creative expression, inviting locals and visitors to engage in this rich history and forward-thinking public art in Denver, Colorado."

Founded in 2010 by local graffiti artist Robin Munro, the event highlights the diversity of Denver’s urban landscape and showcases local talent and voice of the community while welcoming talent from across the world. Munro wanted to take art out of the gallery and let it be available for everyone to enjoy.

“Our intention is to create a collaborative spirit with our visiting artists and have our local artists curate and create together,” CRUSH WALLS founder Robin Munro.

The online application for this year’s festival is now open and will be taking entries until Tuesday, April 28, at 5 p.m. Artists who want to be considered to participate in the event must apply through this link. Entries will be scored by a selection committee. The committee will make recommendations to the CRUSH WALLS 2020 event producers, who will make the final artists selections. Artists may apply as individuals or as a collective, and selected artists will be paid a stipend for their work at the festival. Businesses and property owners in RiNo interested in having a mural painted on their property may apply as a wall owner until 5 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020.
