Since January 1, the legal age to purchase tobacco has changed from 18 to 21. In addition, it will cost you more because of the $3 tax.
It's never too late to quit smoking, and if you missed it on your New Year's resolution, now may be the perfect time to quit. As you may know, Aspen recently changed the age limit to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21, plus there's a $3 tax per pack. The tax will continue to increase by 10 cents each year until the tax is $4 per pack. This is a great reason to quit smoking in 2018. Even if you're not a cigarette smoker, you'll be paying more for all other tobacco and nicotine products, like vape pens and e-cigarettes, which will see a 40 percent tax increase.
Aspen is the first city in Colorado to pass a law to increase the age limit to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21. Please know that it is still legal to smoke as an 18-year-old.
