From the rooftops of downtown Baltimore to state parks in the suburbs, you can take advantage of some of the best outdoor ice skating rinks in America.

Ice skating is a popular winter activity. But unfortunately, due to COVID, several of the rinks have closed down for the 2020-2021 season. There are still some great outdoor rinks where you can enjoy great views while getting in a little exercise, however. Lessons are available at some of the rinks (for the newbies), or you can watch your kids have fun while relaxing with a hot chocolate. The rinks are all requiring masks and will be operating at lower capacity in order to adhere to social distancing protocols. Make sure you call ahead for closures—even ice rinks are susceptible to weather closures!

The skating rink at the Four Seasons in Harbor East is back for another holiday season. This year the "Winter Village" will also include cabana rentals. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time and include a skate rental along with hot chocolate and trail mix. Skaters can enjoy great views of the harbor, snacks, and a one-of-a-kind holiday experience. The rink is open weekends through January 31, 2021. Find more details here.

Quiet Waters Park Ice Rink

Located in Anne Arundel County, Quiet Waters Park is away from the hustle and bustle. Modeled after New York’s Central Park, Quiet Waters features gardens, pavilions, and galleries. Beginning November 20, the park’s ice rink is open during the week (except for Tuesdays) and will also offer skating lessons. This year, due to COVID, all sessions must be booked ahead online. The rink will NOT be offering skate rentals and the warming room will be closed. You will need to pay $6 to enter the public park, unless you come after 5:30 p.m. Only cash or check is accepted.

Silver Spring Ice Skating at Veterans Plaza

The rink is just a short walk from the Silver Spring Metro station and is open seven days a week. Skating fees are $9 for adults and $8 for children, and rentals are $5 and must be booked online ahead of your visit. Lessons and birthday party rentals are also available. The Silver Spring Ice Rink is open daily through March 2021.

Glen Burnie Outdoor Ice Skating

This quaint little ice rink is located in Glen Burnie Town Square in Glen Burnie. Due to COVID, all skaters must reserve sessions online up to two weeks ahead of time. Skating starts at $7 for children and $8 for adults, and skate rentals are available for $3. You can also take skating lessons or have a birthday party at the rink. Glen Burnie Outdoor Ice Skating is open daily through the end of February 2021.
