Traveling to Italy isn’t one of the easiest things to do these days. But fear not, because Italy is coming to you! A new attraction is bringing one of Italy’s most cherished treasures to the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, The Exhibition is a touring display of the artwork created by Michelangelo on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. The paintings are brought to life through high-quality photographs the same size as the paintings in the Sistine Chapel. The design of the exhibit allows visitors to get a closer look than you can when visiting the chapel in Vatican City.

The exhibit is located inside Tysons Corner Mall in Virginia and will be open to the public through March 20.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. The exhibit features more than 30 paintings and has timed ticketing to make sure guests have enough time to view each piece up close. Visitors can also purchase an audio guide accompaniment that describes each painting for an additional cost.

The large wall painting is located behind the altar wasn’t completed until Michelangelo was in his 60s.

The Sistine Chapel paintings were created using the fresco technique, a process where paint pigments are set in wet plaster.
