CPW offers no-cost entry in appreciation for those who serve or have served our country.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is offering all active-duty military and veterans free entrance to all 41 Colorado state parks during the entire month of August. This annual program is designed to show appreciation for all that our military forces do for the country.
"We deeply appreciate our active duty service members and veterans for their service to our nation," said Dan Prenzlow, director of CPW. "There’s no way to ever thank our military members enough for their service and sacrifice, but CPW is proud to offer free entry to our parks this month as a chance to get out and spend time in Colorado’s great outdoors."
In order to get free admission for the month of August, all military personnel honorably discharged, discharged under honorable conditions, or with general discharge, as well as active duty, reservist, and National Guard personnel are eligible to obtain a military hang-tag pass for their vehicle. Please note that while entrance fees are waived, additional activities such as fishing, camping, etc. require a license or reservations.
Proof of service must be presented for military members and veterans to pick up a free August Military Pass at any Colorado state park or CPW office by showing proof of military service. Passes become available on August 1, 2020. Please bring one of the following documents for confirmation:
- Active, retired, or veteran military identification cards
- DD Form 2
- DD Form 2765
- DD214 with the discharge annotated "honorable", "under honorable conditions," or "general"
- Veterans Affairs medical card
- A current and valid Colorado Driver’s License or state-issued identification card with the word 'Veteran' printed on it as specified in 42-2-303 (5)(a), C.R.S
- A military seal on a driver’s license does NOT satisfy the requirement for military ID for this pass
In addition to free admission in August, there are a variety of other active duty and veteran military benefits that CPW offers. Check out the CPW website for more information.
CPW hopes that the free pass will encourage our active and veteran military members to relax, recharge, and truly enjoy the freedom they all stand for.
"Colorado has the best natural places, best hunting, best fishing and best wildlife viewing opportunities in the United States and we're pleased to honor those who serve and have served to protect those places and our freedoms. Thank you for your service," said CPW.
