The Hop-On Hop-Off bus lets you see as much or as little of the city as you want, with the ease of a guided tour.

What is the best way to see D.C. without dealing with crazy traffic or Metro delays? The Hop-On Hop-Off bus is one great option! For the price of a single 24-hour ticket, you can use the service to get around the city and visit more than you ever could on your own.

How It Works

  • Simply head to the D.C. Trails website and choose the D.C. Monuments Hop-On Hop-Off Tour.
  • Pick a date from the calendar and purchase your tickets online. Ticket prices start at $42 per person, $23 per child aged 5 to 15. Depending on the crowd size, you may be able to buy tickets at the bus as well, but why risk it?
  • On your chosen day, just go to one of the stops along the bus route and wait at the designated sign. Buses run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on most days.
  • When the bus arrives, get on and show your ticket/voucher to the driver. It's that easy!

The coolest thing about touring the city this way is that the bus is climate-controlled, and it has Wi-Fi. Not only are you getting from place to place, but you're doing it in comfort. If you're able to hit a good number of the 20 sites on the route, the ticket is well worth the price.

You'll still end up walking quite a bit, so don't worry about not getting your steps in. On a nice day, you can even ride up on the upper level and zip around town with a bird's-eye view. You'll get some of the best pictures from that vantage point.
