Elitch Gardens amusement park plans to open May 1.

Things are starting to look up for Denver-area (and even state) entertainment in 2021.

After making the tough decision to stay closed last year due to COVID (disappointing many thrillseekers), Elitch Gardens has announced its plan to open for the season starting May 1.

"Thrills coming soon! We miss you. We miss the laughs, the screams, the smell of funnel cakes, and most of all your smiling faces. We can't wait to welcome you back! Elitch Gardens is planning to open the park in the Spring of 2021. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy," said Elitch's website

Of course, the park will be following state and local health guidelines around COVID to ensure visitors and employees remain safe while having a great time. That will include masks as long as they are required, as well as an enhanced sanitizing schedule throughout the park.

"All guest and team member high-touch points including surfaces, railings, technology screens, handles, and doors will be sanitized throughout the day as per regular policy. We are also adding additional hand sanitizer stations throughout the park. Anti-bacterial soap will continue to be available throughout the park and signs will be installed to remind team members and guests of health and hygiene best practices," says the website.

Those who purchased a season pass in 2020 will automatically have that pass transferred to the 2021 season in the form of a VIP Season Pass. If season 2020 pass holders don't feel comfortable visiting the park in 2021, they can have their pass transferred to the 2022 season. If for any reason the park doesn't open at all in 2021, the VIP passes will be extended to the 2022 season.

2020 day passes have also been transferred to 2021.

While the park will open to the public on May 1, the water park won't open to the public until Memorial Day weekend. If all goes well, it will stay open through Labor Day weekend.

You can check out the hours and buy passes on the Elitch Gardens website. Find out more information on COVID precautions and pass transfers on its COVID-19 Update page
