In this suspenseful drama by Steven Spielberg, the importance of the first amendment and journalistic integrity are at play, complete with an all-star cast.

The Post tells the story of one of the more crucial and pressing moments in American history. Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep) is the first female publisher of an American newspaper, The Washington Post. Along with that being a trying task, the paper is struggling to compete with the nationally syndicated The New York Times, much to the dismay of editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks). When a cover-up of government secrets finds itself scattered in the news world and the Post is the only hope to educate the people, Bradlee and Graham must decide if they should risk their own careers and lives or inform who they serve. Somewhat of a precursor to the Watergate scandal, this story is a powerful one, especially in today’s political climate. Spielberg takes his audience on a thrilling, nail-biting journey (despite it being a story that is told in almost every high school history class), just proving again and again why he is one of the most honored directors of our time. This is also the first time Spielberg, Hanks, and Streep have completed a project together -- though, they make such a classic fit, you'd never know it was their first collaboration. Streep and Hanks are flawless as usual, with both actors having such a talent for morphing into the roles they're portraying.

"As long as a journalist tells the truth, in conscience and fairness, it is not his job to worry about consequences. The truth is never as dangerous as a lie in the long run. I truly believe the truth sets men free."-- Ben Bradlee

Some may see The Post as your everyday historical drama, but it really goes beyond all that -- maybe even a cautionary tale to be told. The real question is who will choose to listen and take action. That’s why The Post is a film that will be relevant for years and years to come.

It's Academy Award season! Check out our review of Phantom Thread, too!
