Several areas of the conservatory were remodeled and a new exhibit was added during the closure.

The cherry blossoms may be falling off the trees but you’ll soon have the opportunity to see new some new blooms in the District. The United States Botanical Garden has announced it will be reopening the indoor conservatory to the public on Friday, April 1.

The outdoor areas at the Botanical Garden remained open during the pandemic, but this will be the first time visitors have been allowed inside the garden’s buildings.

Visitors will still be encouraged to wear masks and stay home if they are sick.

The conservatory has 10 garden rooms and two courtyard gardens, all under a canopied glass ceiling. Plant species from all over the world are featured in the gardens, including relics that have been in existence for more than 150 million years. The conservatory also features a variety of climates like the desert, the tropics, and the Mediterranean.

Several of the spaces in the building have been remodeled and a new exhibit called Cultivate: Growing Food in a Changing World has been added. The exhibit focuses on how farmers are adjusting agriculture practices in the era of climate change.

The U.S. Botanical Garden has also partnered with local D.C. shop Rewild on a new boutique plant gift shop.

The conservatory will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and the outdoor gardens will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Children’s Gardens and Southern Exposure outdoor courtyards are scheduled to reopen around April 22.

Entrance to the botanical gardens and conservatory is free and no tickets are necessary.

You can find out which plants and flowers are blooming ahead of your trip by visiting the U.S. Botanic Garden website.
