Embarking on a journey with your beloved cannabis stash can be a legal minefield, whether you're traveling by air, car, or crossing state lines. With federal laws conflicting with state regulations, it's crucial to navigate the do's and don'ts of traveling with cannabis.

In this guide, we'll explore essential tips to help you transport your cannabis safely, from understanding local laws and packing it securely to knowing what to expect during airport screenings. Stay informed and prepared to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience with your favorite herb.

Flying With Cannabis:

According to TSA, whether you're flying out of a legalized state or into one, you are permitted to fly with CBD-based products as long as they have less than .3% of THC. While TSA has stated they look for security threats, if they do come across a personal amount of cannabis in luggage, they will confiscate it. The individual could still face potential criminal charges.

Airplanes are under federal jurisdiction, so technically, smuggling any "federal" substance into an airport and/or on a commercial flight is drug trafficking. At LAX, you can have cannabis on your person but can not go through TSA. Those who have a medical card are not excluded from this rule because that card is only valid in the specific state that issued it to you.

Driving With Cannabis:

When traveling in a vehicle through Colorado or any legal state, you should always be as cautious as possible. Obviously, don't drive high, which would result in a DUI. When leaving a dispensary, you should not open any sealed item while in the vehicle or have any evidence that you consumed marijuana in the vehicle. If the seal of a product or something seems like it's been consumed, police can potentially issue a traffic offense.

It's crucial to familiarize yourself with the specific regulations of the states you'll be visiting and avoid transporting cannabis across state lines, as it is a federal offense. Always prioritize compliance with local laws and be mindful of the potential consequences.

Traveling Across State Lines With Cannabis:

When it comes to traveling across state lines, whether you're in a vehicle, bike, or on your own two feet, it's still illegal to cross with cannabis under federal law. Even while in Colorado, if you are on any federal land or national park, having possession of marijuana on you is still technically illegal under federal jurisdiction.

Crossing from one legal state to another can still be tricky different states don't all follow the same laws when it comes to laws such as the amount of marijuana you can have on your person. For example, Colorado allows up to two ounces for personal use on your person, but if you were to cross over into Arizona, they only allow one ounce per person for personal use. So the laws and regulations do get sticky at times.

Do your research before traveling with cannabis products.
