November 13 is the day to ramp up your random acts of kindness.

We sincerely hope that our readers make a concerted effort to be kind to others every day of the year, but World Kindness Day is a great opportunity to celebrate kindness and be intentional about how you will express kindness. It's celebrated around the world and is even on the National School Calendar in Australia. The holiday was established in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement with the intention of celebrating good deeds, spreading positivity, and connecting nations with a common goal of kindness.

Here are some ways to celebrate:

Send kind words in a letter, e-card, or Facebook post

Consider going above and beyond your everyday acts of kindness towards family and friends by taking the time to write a note letting them know how much you appreciate them.

Say thank you

You should always find the time to thank people who are typically underappreciated, like custodians, teachers, nurses, and any other workers you encounter on a daily basis. On World Kindness Day, take the time to thoughtfully express how much you appreciate the hard work of others.

Volunteer

If you don't already volunteer with an organization, consider planning a monthly (or weekly) volunteer shift. You might be surprised how much it can lift your spirits to help out with a cause that resonates with you. Check out some options at Volunteer Match.

Foster or adopt a pet

There are so many furry friends that need homes. If you don't have the ability to adopt but you can temporarily open up your home to an animal, consider fostering. You could also volunteer at a local animal shelter.

Donate

If you don't have the time to volunteer today, you might want to donate to a cause that excites you. Alternatively, consider giving out bus passes, food, or money to the homeless.

Start an online fundraiser

If you're short on cash for donating, you might want to start a fundraiser on social media. Remind your friends that it's World Kindness Day to inspire them to give.

Paste a sticky note

Write uplifting messages on sticky notes and apply them to restroom or dressing room mirrors, lockers, someone's computer screen or car window, or the door to your office or apartment building.

Send flowers

If there's someone in your life you haven't contacted in a while, consider sending them a gift to let them know you're thinking about them. Or, deliver flowers to hospital patients.

Spread compliments

Compliment someone on the elevator, the bus, or in line at a coffee shop.

Shop Amazon Smile

If you have some Amazon shopping to get done, do it through Amazon Smile. You'll pay the same prices, and Amazon will donate 0.5 percent of the purchase price to the charity of your choice.

Exercise self-compassion

Sometimes we are our own harshest critics. Take the time to erase negative thoughts of self-doubt and replace them with kind words of encouragement.

Pay it forward

While the film Pay it Forward left much to be desired, the concept is still inspiring. Complete random acts of kindness like paying for someone's coffee in line behind you or offering to help someone carry their groceries. Let them know about World Kindness Day and suggest they pay it forward.

How will you celebrate World Kindness Day? Let us know about your good deeds in the comments.
