Events include a snow sculpting championship, lighted parade, and artisan market.
The annual Berthoud Snowfest is becoming a Colorado holiday tradition, and it returns for its third year December 12-15. The Berthoud Area Chamber of Commerce will host a statewide competition known as the Colorado State Snow Sculpting Competition, which will feature some of the best snow artists, along with a plethora of family-friendly events. And because Berthoud is located about 47 miles outside of Denver, it makes the perfect short getaway or day trip for Denverites. Here's the full summary of things to see and do during Berthoud Snowfest.
Colorado Snow Sculpting Championship
It all starts with a launch party on December 12 at 5:30 p.m., which will be located at Grace Place. You'll be able to meet the artists, learn about what it's like to be a snow sculptor, and find out the plans for the coming days. There will also be an opportunity to take photos with Santa Claus.
Next, the sculptors will set to work. Friday night and Saturday morning, you'll see the pieces start to come together, and judging will begin at noon on December 15. Weather permitting, the finished sculptures will stay up for a week. You can see the artwork at Fickel Park, where food and drinks will also be available. You'll even have opportunities throughout the festival to eat with the snow sculpting teams.
A kids' snow sculpting event will also take place on December 13 beginning at 3:30 p.m. Click here to register.
Artisan Market
A holiday artisan market will take place on December 15 from 10-4 p.m. at Grace Place. Finish up your holiday shopping as you browse the many vendors.
Lighted Parade
On December 15 at 5 p.m., watch the gorgeous lighted parade as it makes its way west on Mountain Avenue. Make sure to register ahead of time. After that, head to Fickel Park for a tree lighting and join in singing Christmas carols in the candlelight.
Home and Business Decorating Contest
At some point during your visit, you may want to take the time to tour the area and see the many light displays at homes and businesses. A panel of judges will pick the best and will give the winners a business certificate and yard sign, along with bragging rights.
