D.C.

ZooLights | National Zoo | 3001 Connecticut Ave NW.  [gallery columns="2" ids="5050,5027"] Expect to be dazzled at the National Zoo's ZooLights! This yearly D.C. attraction combines holiday lights and animal themes to everyone's deLIGHT (see what I did there?). For more information about ZooLights, check out their website. Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights If you're a big fan of lights and boating in one fell swoop, then you're sure to like this one. The Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights  (December 2) is a favorite holiday celebration in both Old Town Alexandria and Washington, D.C. Pleasure boats are decorated with festive lights, then cruise along the Potomac River, vying for top rankings in categories such as "Best in Show," "Best Thinking Outside the Christmas Box," and "Hardiest Souls."  There will also be an appearance by the Waterskiing Santa (a Christmas tradition since 1986), flying elves, and more. Find out more at TripSavvy.
 

Virginia

Bull Run Festival of Lights | 7700 Bull Run Dr., Centreville, Virginia [gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="5034,5035,5049"] Enjoy lights set to music? The Bull Run Festival of Lights features a 2.5-mile drive-through path with more than 40,000 animated lights set to music. There's also a new Winter Wonderland Holiday Village, which includes amusement rides, an ice skating rink, shopping, contests, and food. Check out their website for more info. Meadowlark Gardens Winter Walk of Lights | 9750 Meadowlark Gardens Court, Vienna, Virginia [gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="5046,5044,5048,5045"] Featuring a half-mile tour of lights, the Meadowlark Gardens light display centers on nature themes and an adorable gingerbread village. Private Home Light Displays If you're looking for a free Christmas lights viewing option, crank up the holiday tunes and drive by some of the amazing light displays featured at private homes. Holly's Tacky Christmas Lights website has a ranking system and pictures for potential visitors to preview before taking the time and gas to visit by car.
