This is pretty shocking. Any DC sports fan knows it has been a while since the Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, or Wizards won a conference championship. But it doesn't quite sink in until you see it written out. 69 seasons. That is how many seasons these four professional sports teams have gone since one of them won their conference. Not since 1998 has an NFL, NBA, MLB, or NHL team in Washington DC won their conference. In 1998, the Washington Capitals made it to the Stanley Cup, winning the Eastern Conference. But even then, the Capitals lost all four Stanley Cup games that year and were swept by the Detroit Red Wings. While we aren't talking about a drought as bad as what the Chicago Cubs or Boston Red Sox once faced, this is still pretty remarkable. And it is not for a lack of trying.
