The American Indian Festival will be held on October 21, and attendees will get to experience the rich culture of Native Americans.
Upper Marlboro’s beautiful Patuxent River Park is set to host the ninth annual American Indian Festival. It will feature interactive exhibits, activities and performances that will deliver the Native American experience to all. The event is a celebration of Indian culture and heritage that's educational and enjoyable. The American Indian Festival began as a celebration and promotion of Native America Indian Month in November. The 7,000-acre Patuxent River Park itself was once home to and owned by the Piscataway Indians.
When: October 21 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Patuxent River Park | 16000 Croom Airport Road, Upper Marlboro
While there is no cost for admission, certain activities require a small fee -- $3 horse and pony rides, $1 raffle tickets, and a basket craft session for $3.
Activities include live musical performances, storytelling, dancing and drumming, and interactive exhibits like finger weaving, bead making and archery. Guests can expect vendors to sell traditional Native American and other foods, books, Indian flutes, Native American jewelry, books and more.
The musical entertainment this year includes a performance by the well-regarded Native American flute player Ron Warren, Grammy-nominated cello player Dawn Avery, drummers the Medicine Horse Singers and Yapatko, and dancers Steve and Rie Miller.
