Believe it or not , there's more to Baltimore than the Orioles and the Ravens! Here's 5 things only a Baltimore native will get.
Some call it 'Mobtown' others call it the 'Clipper City, and late president John Quincy Adams preferred the term 'the Monumental City', but whatever you call it - there's something special about the city of Baltimore. We can all agree that the city has a fantastic history - from Poe to politics - and more recently has been backdrop for the ultra-successful television crime drama the Wire, but what about some of the lesser things that make it Baltimore? Here's five things that only a Baltimore native will understand: 1. There is no such thing as too many Berger Cookies. Chocolatey and delicious, a few of these can cure any homesick Baltimore native instantly. 2.Whether you're on the beach or watching the Orioles you know it's only proper to have a 'Natty Boh' in hand. The National Bohemian Beer brewery, now owned by Pabst, has been a Baltimore staple since the 1800s - not to mention this is the brewery that brought us Colt 45. You're welcome, Afroman.
3. J.O. is better than Old Bay.
Sure they're both kitchen necessities, but unless you're using J.O. your cover is blown and people will know you're not a Baltimore native.
4. Utz Potato Chips are the only way to go.
In Baltimore, it's Utz or nothing. Season with some J.O. if you're feeling fancy.
5. You want to meet the Poe toaster
For 75 years somebody would leave a single rose and bottle of cognac at Poe's grave for his birthday. Baltimore natives still visit the grave to see if the mystery person will show.
