Dog missing for over two weeks is found trapped near the beach.
A family in Calvert County, Maryland, experienced a bit of a Christmas Eve miracle this week. Dawn Judd and her family had been searching for her puppy, Mac, since Dec. 9, after he went missing from her home. But lucky for Mac and his mom, he was rescued by the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department just in time for Christmas.

Nearly two weeks after he disappeared, a hiker spied him on a cliffside in Driftwood Beach. He alerted authorities, but a search for the dog came up empty as the sun went down. On Christmas Eve, the hiker returned and helped authorities locate the trapped dog. Members of the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene to rescue Mac from the cliffside. A member of the company rappelled down the side of the cliff and lifted the tired and hungry dog to safety.
After his triumphant rescue, Mac was in need of a visit to the vet for a checkup and IV nourishment. The Judd family started a Gofundme page to help raise the funds needed to get Mac to the hospital. In a matter of two days, the campaign amount was fulfilled (plus a little extra), and Judd was able to bring her excited pup home. She posted a video on her Facebook page of the happy reunion.
“He is just a baby with a long life ahead of him. We are so thankful he is home safe and sound. This is a true Christmas miracle.”
The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department has members from around Calvert County, including Dunkirk, Solomons, and Huntingtown. The company is made up completely of volunteers that work 24 hours a day, seven days a week answering the call for fires, rescues, natural disasters, and medical emergencies. In November the department moved to a temporary location in advance of the razing and construction of a new firehouse.
