RIP, Ocean City's beloved Boardwalk Elvis! You'll be singing in our hearts forever!
On your visits to the Ocean City Boardwalk (both past and present!), you might recall a man wandering around, holding a boombox, and singing Elvis Presley tunes. Well, this larger-than-life man was Norman Webb, also known as "Boardwalk Elvis" -- a huge, beloved part of the Boardwalk for many years!
Sadly, Webb passed away on June 16 at the age of 78. He will be greatly missed by the people whose lives he touched.
According to Delmarva Now, Webb gained his local fame and iconic nickname by serenading people to Presley's music while dressed as the famous performer and walking up and down the Boardwalk. "For decades," he rode his bike to Ocean City from his home in Showell. Through his warm interactions, Webb became an adored part of many people's visits to the seaside city!
As Webb aged, his once-frequent visits to Ocean City became fewer and fewer. But his age did not stop him from coming to the city altogether, nor did it stop his passion for singing Elvis favorites to others!
