Are you looking to make summer last just a little while longer?
Are you looking to do that without having to travel to a warm paradise? Well, you’re in luck, because you don’t have to.
Right here in Virginia, a mere three-and-a-half hour drive from Washington, D.C., you can escape to your own end-of-summer paradise. Chincoteague Island, in Virginia, is a beautiful and tropical place that provides a peaceful experience to all its visitors. There is a resort on-site, which features rows of colorful island bungalows that you’re able to rent out. The inside is cozy and cabin-like, and just perfect for a weekend away.

If you stay in one of these bungalows, you’re only two minutes from the beach. And since the resort is open until November (usual operating months are March through November), you’ll be able to enjoy the water all fall season long, even if you may not necessarily be able to swim in it.
Not really looking for a bungalow, but more for a camping experience? They’ve got that, too. You can stay on the campground, which has a range of lodging options, from more traditional campsites to rentable RVs.

And, of course, no matter where you choose to sleep, you’ll be able to partake in all the activities and sights the island has to offer. Whether you want to engage in some water activities or just watch the mesmerizing ponies that live on the island roam free, you’re sure to have a relaxing time and forget all about the cold weather approaching.
