There are a lot of cute dogs and puppies just waiting to be adopted in Virginia. Here are a few of the cutest!

One thing you'll learn very quickly is that at any given point, there are a lot of adorable dogs and puppies that are up for adoption in Virginia shelters. Many of these dogs come from broken homes and, despite whatever past they might have, they are just looking for a new forever home and a human they can love unconditionally. Most shelters require that people be local in order to adopt animals, though experience tells us that is more of a guideline than a hard-and-fast rule. So if you fall in love with one of these dogs, you can always call the shelter and see if they will make an exception for you. Adoptions can come at any moment, so it is possible that by the time you see this, one or more of these pups could already be adopted into their forever homes. Whether you are looking to adopt or not, take a look at some of the cutest dogs up for adoption this week from across Virginia!

Virginia Beach SPCA

Jackson -- 6-Year-Old Pit Bull Terrier adoption Pit bulls can get a bad rap, and because of that, they can take longer to place in their forever homes. But despite the breed's reputation, many pit bull and pit bull-mixes make perfect, loving family pets. Jackson is described as a total lover who wants nothing more than to chew on sticks and bones and shower people with love and affection. At times, he can be a little too loving and because he doesn't really know his own strength, the Virginia Beach SPCA recommends he be placed into a home with children who are 6 years old or older. You can learn more about adopting him through his direct adoption link here. Sassy -- 8-Month-Old Terrier adoption Don't let her name fool you. Sassy is as sweet and lovable as her ears are oversized. She is a transfer from another shelter, so her past is a little murky, but this young puppy is so far shaping up to be a model citizen. She is still young, so she will need to be trained, but that also means she won't have too many bad habits to break! You can learn more about Sassy and how to adopt her here.

Tater and Tot -- 10-Year-Old Cuteness [gallery columns="2" ids="3186,3187"] Maybe its their adorable names or the fact that Tater and Tot are both brother and sister, but we just had to add them to our list! While they don't have to be adopted together, they're hoping they will be! Both would prefer to find a peaceful forever home where they can feel relaxed and calm. Use these links to learn more about Tater and Tot. Glover -- 2-Year-Old Hound adoption Glover is always curious and in search of adventure. He loves to go on long walks, hikes, or wherever his human wants to go. If you don't fall in love with his childlike curiosity, his large majestic face and floppy ears should do the trick! If you are looking for the perfect companion dog, learn more about Glover and adoption here.

Jefferson -- 7-Month-Old Dachshund Mix adoption Jefferson got his presidential name because he arrived at the Northern Virginia SPCA on 4th of July weekend. He is young and playful and has never met a dog or cat he didn't like. In fact, he likes dogs so much that the shelter is actually requiring him to be adopted into a home with another dog. He would probably prefer a single-family home over an apartment, just because he likes to play that much! He is still young and in need of proper training, but he is excited at the opportunity to join his forever family! Learn more about adopting Jefferson here.
