I think we can all agree we love the Commonwealth of Virginia. So much so, that we do our best to be law-abiding citizens. But, there are some Virginia laws that are, well ... just plain weird!

11 Weird Laws in Virginia You May Not Have Known About:

  • Bribes can only be made by officials.
  • You may not engage in business on Sundays … with the exception of almost every industry.
  • Citizens must honk their horn while passing other cars. That’s a lot of honking…
  • Children are not to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.

  • No one may wash a mule on the sidewalk in Culpeper.
  • In Frederick, any person who owns a pool risks a $2,500 fine for not closing the gate to the pool when they’re finished swimming.
  • Spitting at a seagull is not tolerated in Norfolk.
  • No person may keep a skunk as a pet in Prince William County.
  • In Richmond, it is illegal to flip a coin in a restaurant to see who pays for a coffee
  • If you’re drunk and not driving your car in Virginia Beach, but the person who is driving the car is also drunk, you could both receive DUI’s. - It is illegal for a person to ride on the handlebars of a bike - It is unlawful to drive by the same place within 30 minutes on Atlantic Avenue No U turns for you.
  • It is illegal for a woman to drive up Main Street in Waynesboro unless her husband is walking in front of the car, waving a red flag.
