Seniors 62 and older will be able to get into the Virginia Aquarium for half price on weekdays this month.

This is a pretty cool promotion that we just had to publicize. During the month of October, the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach will offer half-price weekday tickets to all visitors who are 62 and older. These special discount tickets are available Monday through Friday. Whereas normal weekday Senior (62+) Virginia Aquarium tickets usually cost $22.95, seniors this month will be able to get in on weekdays for just a tad under $11.50. In addition to that, children who are 3 years old or under get in free, so this is a great opportunity for seniors to bring their young grandchildren on an affordable field trip to see the aquarium's 10,000-plus animals. Just in time for Halloween, the museum's current special exhibit is “Goose Bumps: the Science of Fear.” This new exhibit focuses on the science of fear, explaining why humans are afraid of things like spiders and sharks. While this exhibit is probably not appropriate for kids who are too young, it was featured to science centers across the country this year and has been a huge hit among children and young adults. The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center usually offers a $2 ticket discount for active duty and retired military veterans. However, seniors who take advantage of this month's weekday half-off promotion will not be able to apply the military/veteran discount, or any other additional discount for that matter, to this month's half-off promotion. For more information, you can call the aquarium at 757-383-FISH (3474). The Virginia Aquarium is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 717 General Booth Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
