Ashley Weber, a 31-year-old high school teacher, has been charged with having consensual sex with one of her students.

Ashley Weber is still listed on the school website as a history teacher at Freeman High School, though it is unlikely she will be teaching classes anytime soon. The only history she'll be focused on is defending her alleged sexual history with one of her 16-year-old students. The encounters were reportedly consensual, but the age gap between the teenager and the 31-year-old teacher makes it criminal behavior.
Ashley Weber has been charged with two counts of "having consensual sexual intercourse with a child 15+ years old." Additionally, text messages between her and her alleged victim led prosecutors to tack on an additional charge of "using a communication device to propose sex." She now faces two misdemeanors and one felony charge. Police were first called to the school on June 12 when allegations of the inappropriate contact first surfaced. Her alleged victim -- who remains nameless -- was 16 years old at the time. She was arrested on August 1 and posted $5,000 bond. She will be living with her mother while on bond. Andy Jenks, a spokesperson for Henrico County Schools, was quick to distance the school district from the accused.
Ms. Weber is not a year-round employee, and we have few details about the allegations other than what has been publicly reported. Ms. Weber has been employed with us since August of 2009, most recently as a history teacher at Freeman High School and, before that, at Tucker High School."
The spokesperson said that it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time. Ashley Weber will next appear in court on October 6, at 10 a.m.
