You only have until October 31, but your daily votes could help Steamboat Springs win a grant to revitalize its historic Main Street!

Through a joint effort by National Geographic, American Express, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, 25 historic sites on Main Streets across America are in the running for $2 million in restoration grants, and Steamboat Springs is one of them! Until October 31, you can log in and vote up to five times per day for the Main Street project of your choice. [gallery ids="25583,25582,25580"] With the potential prize money, Steamboat Springs is hoping to restore a 1950s train caboose and make the historic piece into an art studio and gallery -- as well as a "gateway" to its Main Street. The cost to spruce up the old caboose's exterior and transform the interior into a studio would be approximately $150,000. It currently collects rust next to the railroad tracks it once rode.
Just as American Express has motivated millions of Americans to shop along their Main Streets during Small Business Saturday, the 2017 Partners in Preservation: Main Streets campaign will create national awareness of the connection between historic preservation and our country’s thriving Main Streets," the campaign's website states. "When citizens support their local historic sites and districts, they drive development, preserve character, attract visitors, and propel commerce."
Voting in the #VoteYourMainStreet campaign has been going on since September 25 and will last until October 31. Registering to vote is easy (you can conveniently log in with your Facebook account). The Main Street sites with the most votes at the end of the voting period will receive the restoration funding they require until the $2 million in total grant moneys from American Express has been dispersed. steamboat springs So vote for Steamboat Springs, and invite your fellow Coloradans to vote as well!
