Pour Your Heart Out: A Celebration for Rudy
When we find ourselves championing a cause, it's likely due to the fact that we were personally affected by an unfortunate event or circumstance. Such is the case for the owners and winemakers at Deep Roots Winery in LoDo who sadly lost their only brother, Rudy, to a heart attack at the age of 29 in July of 2014.
Prior to his passing, Rudy and his sisters, Teara and Carol, had a dream of one day opening up a winery of their own, spurred by their family's love for wine and winemaking. Prior to sustaining the loss of their brother, Teara and her husband, Steve, moved to Colorado to fulfill their wish to set up a winery of their own, and Carol followed in 2017.
“The winery has always been a dream of ours. It started with Rudy, Carol and me. Then, when Steve and I started dating, we often talked about owning a vineyard and winery in California. That’s how we would retire. When Rudy passed, it put life into a different perspective for Steve, Carol and me. We wanted to be closer as a family. Not emotionally, we were already there, but physically since Carol was still in Michigan. So we started to plan and get things in place. We wanted to build something that our kids could be a part of and hopefully take over one day.” -- Teara Walters
Four years later, the Deep Roots Winery & Bistro has found a home in Denver to serve a variety of wines and delicious bites to the wine-lovers of the area. Open for almost a year now, the Deep Roots family is hosting a special event to celebrate their brother's life and to raise money for the American Heart Association.
Pour Your Heart Out: A Celebration For Rudy, will be held on September 19, 2018. 25 percent of ticket and bottle sales from the event will go directly to the American Heart Association. Attendees will enjoy an evening of unlimited wine tastings and appetizers, from 6 to 8 p.m., and will get to hear live music, have pictures taken in the photo booth, get a chance to win a raffle prize, and much more.
Price is $100 per person and each ticket includes a commemorative glass and photo. Also, for the event, Deep Roots will be doing a VIP experience for the purchase of 10 tickets or more. They will, in turn, donate six bottles of wine to the next team/personal event of the purchaser's choice and present them with a commemorative bottle of wine at the event.
Since Rudy's untimely passing, his sisters and brother-in-law have been active in continuing his memory by driving awareness to heart conditions and promoting heart health through their winery.
“For us, working with the American Heart Association is an honor, but also a need. A need to find answers, and to help find cures, treatments and better screening for heart-related conditions. For us, it was personal. When you lose someone so close and so young, you need answers. For us there really were none. We hope that by working with the AHA, we can help prevent that from happening to others.” -- Carol Edenburn
