*Updated at 1:19 p.m. (MT):

Comedian Betty White has died, as first reported by TMZ. The beloved actress and American icon was 99 years old, just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

White passed away in her home on Friday morning of natural causes, according to a source close to Betty. TMZ writes The Golden Girls actress didn't have "any sudden illness, nor was she battling any particular ailment."

A true pioneer in media, White had the longest career of any woman in TV, having worked in the industry for 8 decades. Known best for her role as Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls, White has been a staple on our TVs and movie screens for as long as we can remember. And she will be sorely missed.
