Fans of the holiday favorite "A Christmas Story," take note: A live version of the beloved film will air December 17, starring Matthew Broderick and Maya Rudolph!
Live TV productions of favorite musicals have become a bit of a holiday tradition in recent years, starting with NBC's 2013 presentation of "The Sound of Music." Others followed every December after that, but with NBC's decision to take a hiatus in 2017, FOX is swooping in with "A Christmas Story Live!", inspired by the 1983 classic movie and the Broadway production “A Christmas Story: The Musical.” [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=lfOfMFqocnE[/embed]
The three-hour live television event will air Sunday, December 17, (7 p.m. ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. It will feature several new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the same composers who wrote the score to the Tony Award-nominated “A Christmas Story: The Musical” on Broadway.
Will you be tuning in for "A Christmas Story LIVE"? What's your favorite Christmas movie? What musical do you wish TV studios would do a live production of? Tell us in the comments!
The plot of the endearing holiday classic is simple:
All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a BB gun, and in the weeks leading up to December 25, Ralphie and his friends get into all kinds of trouble — including run-ins with a bully, getting his tongue stuck to a flagpole, and more," Playbill explains. From his dad's obsession with the "fragile" iconic leg lamp to the neighbors' crazy turkey-devouring dogs, this snapshot into the life of a circa-1950s dysfunctional family is highly entertaining!
