They were besties, then frenemies, now friends again. How an olive branch literally rekindled the pop stars’ relationship.

On the opening night of Taylor Swift’s “Reputation Stadium Tour” in May of 2018, the superstar walked into her dressing room to an unexpected gift awaiting her – literally an olive branch with a personally handwritten note from WHOM? Katy Perry.

Taylor Swift immediately posted a video on Instagram, saying, “I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch. This means so much to me,” along with the caption, “Thank you, Katy,” and a heart emoji.

The partial view of the note from Katy Perry read, “Hey old friend – I’ve been doing some thinking on past miscommunications and feelings between us and wanted to clear the air…” It was tucked into the original envelope with a puppy dog sticker seal. Honestly, I’m glad the rest of the note was not revealed, as it was personal between the two.

Last week, Taylor Swift released her amazingly star-studded, colorful, and catchy video for her song, “You Need to Calm Down” from her upcoming album, "Lover."  Katy Perry made a surprise appearance at the end of the music video, dressed in the hamburger outfit she'd worn to the Met Gala after-party in May. Taylor Swift, in a french fry costume, curiously looked around until her gaze fell upon Katy. Their eyes met, they slowly walked toward one another (as chaos ensued) in ridiculous costumes, and they embraced. It was a "cheeky" metaphor of their real-life reconciliation. Katy Perry noted on Instagram, "This meal is BEEF-free" and Taylor Swift referred to the photo as a “Happy Meal.”  Thankfully, the pop music world is in balance again.

After the reconciliation reveal in the video, Taylor Swift spoke in an interview on the U.K.’s Capital Breakfast radio show about their friendship. She credits Katy Perry’s olive branch gesture for the change between them.

“From that point on, we’ve been on good terms,” Taylor Swift said. “We saw each other at a party and walked up to each other and hugged it out and talked about things,” she added. “It was just like something felt so much lighter about my life when things became really good between us.” S

he said on BBC Radio 1, “Both of us have been in a really good place for a while, but I don't think either of us really knew if we were ever going to talk about it publicly.”

Well, thank goodness Katy Perry agreed to participate in Swift's music video or their friendship would still just be a matter of speculation.

Taylor Swift’s “Lover” album will be released on August 23. Fans are anticipating a collaboration. What do you think? Will we get a song out of the two renewed friends?
