The Longmont Symphony Orchestra and the Boulder Ballet present The Gentle Nutcracker.

On Saturday, December 1, a sensory-friendly version of Tchaikovsky's infamous Nutcracker Ballet will be performed for individuals with special needs, along with their family members. Put on by the Longmont Symphony Orchestra and the Boulder Ballet, this performance of The Nutcracker will bring the community together and give those who may not have the same opportunity to enjoy the performing arts -- particularly during the holiday season -- the chance to do so.

"The Longmont Symphony is proud to be using music as a catalyst to deepen feelings of family and community," said Elliot Moore, LSO music director, in a statement.

Called The Gentle Nutcracker, this performance will include keeping the house lights dimmed at 35 percent, providing professional support to answer any questions or assist with any problems, the encouragement of involuntary movement and noises, a designated quiet area for those who may need it, and an EMT onsite in case of emergencies.

Prior to the performance of The Gentle Nutcracker, a musical instrument demonstration will be held in the lobby of the Vance Brand Civic Auditorium at 12:15 p.m.

When: Dec. 1 from 1-2 p.m.
