Along with remembering George Washington, Mount Vernon recognizes another popular subject: whiskey! On November 9, Mount Vernon is holding its George Washington Whiskey Festival! Visitors can learn about the distilled beverage's rich history while sampling from dozens of distilleries, including the monument's own brand. If American history and drinking whiskey appeal to you, you've come to the right place!
The VIP Experience is something special, and with only 125 tickets available, it's likely to go fast. Held at the property's Distillery & Gristmill, guests will get an inside look into the production process of George Washington Rye Whiskey. Taste a selection of their spirits (including an aged variety )and allow noted whiskey enthusiast Bill Thomas of D.C.'s Jack Rose Dining Saloon to shed insight on the craft of distilling. Guests can also enjoy traditional treats baked by Justin Cherry. All of this takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m., so think of it like a warm-up before the main event!
For General Admission, ticket-holders will gather at the Ford Orientation Center for a soiree of whiskey sampling. Enjoy selections from George Washington Rye Whiskey and a dozen regional distilleries while learning about the methods that go into making them. There will also be a panel featuring experts in distilling, who will share their knowledge of the craft. It's like a classroom meets happy hour!
