Like with many classics, many of us have seen traditional stories in different versions and forms, and The Nutcracker is no exception (I, for one, was a huge fan of the Barbie version in my childhood)! The original story was written by Alexandre Dumas, and it was simplified and turned into a ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky -- quite a mouthful if I do say so myself. The ballet tells the tale of Clara who is given a nutcracker toy by her godfather, and once it magically comes to life, Clara becomes entangled in a battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King.

The Sussex Dance Academy's production follows Tchaikovsky's beloved Christmas classic and employs a multitude of local, talented, young dancers to fill the shoes of this epic ballet. You'll have the chance to get entangled yourself into Clara's adventures in The Land of Sweets, root for the Nutcracker to defeat the dreaded Mouse King (because who likes a hateful mouse, honestly), and listen to tunes we've all loved time and time again during this time of year! Soooo, are you gonna dream of sugar plum fairies, dashing nutcrackers, and talking mice, or are you going to go see it in person?!

What do you think of The Nutcracker? Have you seen a previous production of this ballet by the academy? If so, what did you think? Let us know below!

Head to Annapolis to get in on another amazing holiday tradition: "Lights on the Bay"!
