On March 9, the Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk will host “Shamrockin' in Ghent.” The event is a St. Patrick’s Day block party that raises money for a good cause.

As it has for more than 20 years, the Ghent section of Norfolk will soon welcome thousands to the annual “Shamrockin' in Ghent” St. Patrick’s Day block party! Traditionally held on the Friday before St. Patrick’s Day, this year's event lands on Friday, March 9, and is expected to break attendance records (as it has in recent years) with an anticipated crowd of 5,000 people. WHEN: Friday, March 9 | 6 p.m.–10 p.m. WHERE: Ghent District in Norfolk, VA (Colley Avenue, between Shirley and Gates avenues) COST: Free admission (food and $5 drink tickets sold separately) [wp_ad_camp_] Held by local nonprofit Hope House Foundation, the lively event will feature live music, Irish food and fare, and regional beer and wine from local restaurants -- all in the Irish tradition and style. In the spirit of giving, Hope House has arranged for the nonprofit musical group Tidewater Pipes and Drums to perform traditional Irish music and offer a true Irish pipe and drum performance. Cover band The Deloreans will help balance the musical entertainment with dance-friendly covers, while award-winning Celtic rock band The Fighting Jamesons will invigorate the crowd with their “aggressive and energetic modern-day approach” to traditional-style music. All proceeds from Shamrockin' in Ghent will go to supporting programs that provide services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities!
