This firework show brings the holiday spirit to one of the nation's biggest landmarks—with Christmas music, reenactments, and even a chocolate-making demo!
Fireworks may be associated with Independence Day, but why not bring them into Christmas? Mount Vernon is hosting its yuletide firework show "Christmas Illuminations" on December 20–21! From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., enjoy a tour of the estate and assorted activities, followed by festive fireworks lighting up the Potomac River. Filled with colonial merriment and Christmas cheer, this event will dazzle kids from 1 to 92!

Gather on Mount Vernon's front lawn for colonial merriment before the big show at 8 p.m. Colonial reenactors will entertain with craft demos (including the crowd-pleasing chocolate-making demo) while Martha Washington will greet visitors with a warm holiday welcome. Guests will be delighted by an adorable appearance from Aladdin the camel!
No visit to Mount Vernon is complete without the food, which is available to purchase at their cafe. Grab a bite off their menu including beef hot dogs, veggie wraps, chips, and cookies, or warm up with a spiked hot chocolate.
Have a shopping list to check off? Never fear—their gift shop is full of funky trinkets perfect for stocking stuffers or wrapped under the tree. You'll also have time to explore the estate's grounds and the Museum and Education Center, which is open for the duration of the event.
Admission is $30–$36 for adults and $20–$26 for children ages 6-11. Visitors can purchase tickets with or without a tour of the mansion, which is reflected in the price.
