Tune in for panda updates, cooking demos, and other foodie fun.
The National Zoo's annual fundraiser "Bite Night: ZooFari" is getting a virtual makeover for 2020. On Friday, September 25, at 6 p.m., tune into "Byte Night: ZooFari" for exclusive animal updates, culinary wizardry, and a silent auction to benefit the zoo's conservation efforts.
This "byte"-sized version of the event packs the same punch as the original. This year, viewers can catch an update from Deputy Director Brandie Smith on the new panda cub, watch live animal demos (like seals and sea lions!) and learn the tricks of home cooking with Host Chef Tim Ma.
The live stream is free, but VIP options are available for food-themed entertainment you won't experience anywhere else. Guests can choose between four different packages:
- Chef's Package ($10,000/FONZ $9,000): Experience a professionally made meal by a chef in your own home—that's right, an actual chef in your house!
- Restauranteur Package ($6,000/FONZ $5,400): Have a chef-created meal delivered straight to your door
- Wine Lovers Package ($3,500/FONZ $3,150): Enjoy a virtual wine tasting with Bluemont Vineyards
- Brewer's Choice Package ($2,000/FONZ $1,800): Sample beers with City Brew Tours
All VIP packages come with bonus features, including a virtual zoo tour, Q&A session with an animal keeper, a shout-out on the zoo's website, and more. Plus, all of them can be done at your convenience—you'll be getting the VIP treatment, after all!
The Silent Auction begins a week before the event on September 18, giving bidders a chance to win animal artwork, cooking classes, exclusive zoo tours, and other fun stuff. Like past events, all the proceeds benefit the zoo's conservation efforts.
Of course, since this is a food event, you'll want something tasty to eat. Guests are encouraged to enjoy offerings from participating restaurants, including Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurants, Georgetown Cupcake, and Nicoletta Italian Kitchen, while they watch at home. These restaurants have supported the zoo's mission for decades, so they invite you to reciprocate the good vibes and experience delicious cuisine in return!
Byte Night: ZooFari is free of charge and goes live Friday, September 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. You can reserve your spot here.
