As if the holidays don't already give us enough reasons to drink, here's one that'll make you feel warm inside, in more than one way – the 12 Bars of Charity. Founded in St. Louis in 2012, the multi-city 12 Bars of Charity bar crawl has been helping local charities raise money all while inspiring participants/donors to get a little merry. This December 15 marks Denver's 4th year of participation, and if Denver's the drinking town I know it to be, it's going to be epic.
Getting thirsty? It works like this: Register online for $30 + taxes and fees ($10 goes to your charity of choice), select your local charity (our pick is A Precious Child, an organization empowering kids to succeed), and bring the printed ticket to Sports Column to pick up your team sweater. Then let the crawl begin. A shuttle will be available and the bars are going to be slingin' some great drink specials to all sporting the 12 Bars of Charity garb.
Participating bars include the Tavern Downtown, Viewhouse, The Retro Room, The Refinery, Sidecar, Lodo's Bar and Grill, Sports Column, Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub, Zanzibar, The Ginn Mill, El Charrito, Gigging Grizzly, Hayter's & Co., and Brothers Bar & Grill (not to be confused with My Brother's Bar).
Last year's $1 Coors Light and $1 well special at Sports Column were pretty hard to beat.
When you register you pick a team to represent, and each team is tied to a charity. A Precious Child (the blue team) is our charity of choice for this event. This organization provides children in need with opportunities and resources to empower them to achieve their full potential. A Precious Child works with more than 440 agency partners like schools, health and human services, shelters, and foster care organizations to identify where children are in need of their services. Ultimately, this nonprofit aims to bridge the gap in children’s education so the children they serve can become secure, self-reliant, contributing members of their communities as adults. To date, 12 Bars of Charity has raised over $350,000 and has expanded to Dallas, Des Moines, Louisville, Indianapolis, San Diego, Orange County, Scottsdale, and more, so even if you're not in Denver on December 15, you may be able to participate!
