When two special occasions fall on the same day, there is no excuse for missing out on all of the great celebrations happening in your area. Choose between sombreros and margaritas or over-the-top derby hats and mint juleps on Saturday, May 5, when Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby come together to create the perfect party weekend. Visit these Richmond spots to partake in the festivities!

Cha Cha's Cantina Cinco de Mayo Party

The party begins on Friday, May 4, with a live performance by Los Ramones, a Spanglish Ramones cover band, from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. On Saturday, take advantage of the $15 all-inclusive happy hour and dinner buffet from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., which will feature new menu items. There will be a performance by Bio Ritmo, an indie salsa group, as well as plenty of DJs to keep the party going all night!

Que Pasa Festival

Hosted by the Virginia Hispanic Chamber, the event will be held from 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Come enjoy Hispanic-centered food, dancing, arts and crafts, and lots of other entertainment. Participants will also be able to ride the canal boats for free during the festival. Best of all, there will be a community-wide challenge to hold the Guinness Book of World Record for largest piƱata display!

Derby Day on Q Rooftop

For only $5, you can drink some classic cocktails, enjoy appetizers, view the Derby, and enjoy some of Richmond's finest sunset views at this classy event. Prizes will be awarded for the best authentic Derby outfit, best-dressed couple, and best hat. The party runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Quirk Hotel.

Derby Day 2018 at Rogue

This is their fifth year celebrating the race, and this year, they will have Elijah Craig bourbon mint juleps, among many other delicious drinks. They are encouraging everyone to wear their best Derby attire, so gett creative and come watch the race in style!

Kentucky Derby de Mayo at Center of the Universe Brewing

From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., you can enjoy live music, a fancy hat contest (sombreros welcome) and a raffle benefiting CJ's Thumbs Up Foundation. And of course, have some of Center of the Universe's delicious beer. Some seasonal flavors include Summer Moon Raspberry Lemonade, BEE Orange Blossom Honey Ale, and Orange Is the New Stout.
