The Big Build is a must-do for little ones who love building and construction equipment.

One of the most popular events for kids is coming back to National Building Museum in November. The Big Build is a hands-on experience where kids can learn about construction from industry professionals. They can build a brick wall, try their luck at nail driving, and view construction equipment like cranes, tractors, and trucks.

The purpose of the event is to inspire children to pursue careers in STEM and other construction-related jobs. The event is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 5.

“We could not be more thrilled to have The Big Build return in person to the Great Hall,” said Aileen Fuchs, President and Executive Director of the Museum. “This event will engage kids and adults alike, giving them the literal tools to build a wide array of objects and inspire their curiosity about how we can all play a role in planning, creating, constructing and improving the places where we live, work and play.”

This year’s exhibition will include several virtual reality experiences, including creating structures with different types of materials and a crane simulator that allows you to move materials around a construction site. The biggest draw at The Big Build is the “petting zoo” of construction equipment on the west lawn. Visitors will be able to see earthmovers, bulldozers, and giant cranes up close and personal.

Inside the museum, there will be a myriad of stations where kids can put on a hard hat and use a hammer, chisel, and other construction tools.

The Big Build is free to the public, but if you would like to tour the rest of the museum you must purchase tickets. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children aged 3 to 17.
