This Burning Man-inspired celebration brings fire performers, art installations, and more.
When the darkness falls, fire artistry will light up the sky at this year's Telluride Fire Festival. This annual non-profit festival, inspired by Burning Man, returns for its fourth year and will feature a variety of free events open to the public. Fire art performers will delight onlookers, workshops will teach unique skills, and a final ball will marry exhibition with performance. You'll also experience fiery art cars and a sculpture garden in which art burns.
The Telluride Fire Festival will run from December 7-9 in Telluride, CO. While many workshops and exhibits are free, a $95 all-access pass lets you enjoy a number of premium events like the final Fire Ball, the Fire on the Mountain event, both nights of Hot Time in the Old Town, and the Fireside Soiree at The Bob. You can also purchase tickets to glass blowing or stain glassed workshops on December 8-9.

Free events include a hoop juggling class, movement class, fire dancing performances, a poi workshop, and a gallery show.
At Slate Gray Gallery during the festival, you can see Keith D'Angelo's mixed-media project OUT OF FOCUS, which has gained international media attention. Intended to raise awareness about gun violence, the project juxtaposes weaponry and photography.

So how can you participate? You're welcome to show up to free events, and if you're driving all the way from Denver, there are plenty of dining and lodging options. During daylight hours, you can ski, hike, shop, or visit museums or galleries. You can also volunteer for the event (a seven-hour shift gets you free admission to the Fire Ball) or donate if you want to support the celebration.
