"Cats" just came out as a feature-length film, and audiences simply aren't feline it.
Despite its incredible star power (sorry, Swifties), Cats seems to be disappointing audiences in a big way. Just take a look at these tweets:
#CatsMovie is terrible. A descent into madness, while at the same time showing you what the gates of hell might look like. This is the best way to torture someone. This comes from someone who can appreciate musicals. I did burst out laughing when the first cat jumped out singing pic.twitter.com/hT1ukdlp8B

For people who have seen the show on Broadway, dozens of singing, dancing cats are no surprise. For the uninitiated, it can be a bit jarring, to say the least.
I’ll have a detailed analysis on Thursday but here’s my capsule review of #catsmovie:

Reactions included people who were disappointed in general, with a smattering of disbelief from people who noticed major production flaws.
Wait. They didn’t bother finishing the CGI on Rebel Wilson’s human hand? 💀⚰️⚱️ #Cats pic.twitter.com/u9g5xNA5XM

Jason Derulo made me uncomfortable.
Rebel Wilson and James Corden will haunt my dreams forever.
Reviewing movies was meant to bring me joy.

Many people are simply perplexed.
I’ve been trying to write a tweet for #CatsMovie for almost 20 minutes and I just can’t come up with anything. I’m truly speechless. I’m baffled by the fact that this movie exists. I don’t even know what an actual cat looks like anymore. It’s a truly horrifying experience. Yikes. pic.twitter.com/7Z36M5aAbV

Keep in mind, even the pros are deeming this silver screen reboot a major cat-astrophe.
I hope this ends up on the cover of the #CatsMovie home release. pic.twitter.com/scjN8fzW6A
